UK Trans Info believe that all trans and non-binary groups, organisations and charities should be able to have a website, but we recognise that the costs involved can be prohibitive. For this reason we run a new web hosting service specifically for trans and non-binary groups, organisations and charities. This service is either free or very low cost, depending on your circumstances and requirements.

All websites hosted through out service must be UK based and must be trans and/or non-binary specific. Websites must be run for a non-profit group, organisation or charity that works primarily on trans and/or non-binary specific work. Non-profit groups, organisations and charities with a wider remit (including LGBT) will only be allowed hosting if it is solely for a trans and/or non-binary specific project. Trans and/or non-binary specific, non-profit projects run by other organisations (such as staff networks or student union societies) may be allowed at our sole discretion.

We can offer you two options:

Option 1 - Free wordpress blog or wiki at something.uktrans.org

We will install a wordpress blog or a wiki and let you use it for free. The website address will be something.uktrans.org, where you can choose what the 'something' is. For instance if your organisation is called Trans Unicorns then your website address could be transunicorns.uktrans.org.

In return:

  • You will not have to make a donation, although you are welcome to do so.
  • Your website must acknowledge in some way that UK Trans Info provides your hosting.
  • A link to your website will be placed at the bottom of this page.
  • If you have a list of useful contacts (or similar) on your website then we would ask you to include UK Trans Info on the list unless it is unsuitable.
  • You must agree to our Hosting Terms of Service.

You will have:

  • Up to 150MB of disk space (enough for most things, but if you have lots of images you may need to host them elsewhere such as photobucket or flickr).
  • The ability to customise your wordpress blog or wiki using the built in admin controls.
  • FTP access so that you can directly edit the configuration or upload add-ons.
  • Up to 10 email addresses (such as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) which can either be accessed by webmail, set up on your phone or computer, or forwarded to another email address. Emails stored on the server take up part of your 150MB, and are also limited to 25MB per address so you may need to delete old emails if you get lots.

Option 2 - Free or very low cost 1GB of web hosting at your own domain name

We will provide you with 1GB of web hosting space for use with one website. You will need to purchase your own domain name.

In return:

  • We will ask you to make a donation of £15 per year, or £1.25 per month. This is the exact amount it costs us to increase our storage capacity by 1GB.
  • If your organisation has an income of less than £1,500 per year, or if making the £15 annual donation would have a serious detrimental effect to your organisation, you can ask us to provide the service free of charge. We can only provide a limited number of organisations with free hosting so preference will be given to organisations who do not already have a website or who are struggling with the cost of their existing hosting. If we provide you with free hosting this will be reassessed every year.

  • Up to 1GB of disk space (plenty for most organisations, but if you need more then we can add an extra 1GB for an additional donation of £15 per year or £1.25 per month).
  • Easy automatic installer for many applications such as wordpress, joomla, drupal and others.
  • Unlimited email addresses which can either be accessed by webmail, set up on your phone or computer, or forwarded to another email address.
  • Unlimited subdomains.
  • Unlimited MySQL databases and access to phpMyAdmin.
  • Full control over your website with access to cPanel, FTP and (on request) SSH access.
  • See full Technical Specifications.

 Things to consider

  • This is not a ready made website. Although we will install wordpress or a wiki for you (or wordpress, joomla or drupal on option 2) we will not be able to help you setting up the rest of your website. For instance a wordpress installation will look something like this, and it will be up to you to turn that into a full website.
  • If you choose option 2 then you will need to purchase your own domain name. We suggest that you shop around for this, as different providers will charge different amounts for the same domain name. You can wait until after your application for hosting has been approved before purchasing your domain name.
  • This is a shared server environment, which means that your website is on the same server as many others.
  • UK Trans Info and our web hosts will technically have full access to your web hosting. We will not use this ability unless you ask us to, except in an emergency (eg if your website is causing damage to the server) or if we are required to do so by law.
  • Our web hosts provide technical support for server issues, but they have to be submitted by us. There may be a delay between you reporting an issue to us, and us reporting it to the web host. Note that they don't provide technical support for any of the applications or scripts (such as wordpress, joomla, etc) that you may have installed, only for the server itself.

How to apply

To apply, please complete this application form and we will be in touch.

We aim to process applications within two weeks, but it will usually be quicker than this. If you are making a donation you do not need to do this until after we have approved your application.
